As we rejoin the boys, Patrick is at the office with Kevin working on a rough cut of the video game they’re developing. (Which appears to be another first person shooter. I’m not much of a gamer, but how many of those can we have?) The boys take a break to peek out on the Folsom Street Fair. I’ll admit that being both an Easterner and a Southerner I am not at all familiar with what this event is, but ...

So, a lot happened in this episode, and that’s why I enjoyed it. Some of the storylines came to a conclusion and new ones emerged. To top it all off, Ian showed up!
Frank, Samantha, and Carl
Frank is still bonding with his eldest daughter. I can’t see Frank as a father figure. I just can’t! It’s weird to see...

Recently several “news” sites began speculating on the sexuality of Colin Kaepernick. If you are unaware of who he is, he’s the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers football team. Qweerty started the rumor mill churning by “reporting” that Kaepernick was photographed with “openly gay circuit DJ Luis Perez” while at a Super Bowl party in Atlanta hosted by Sports Illustrated. Pe...

This is the second edition of our Teen Wolf roundtable, in which six of our writers discuss questions relating to MTV’s super-hot beefcake extravaganza.
Today’s question: Sterek! Go.
Paul: I never got into the Sterek fandom. Back in the first season, I heard rumblings on the internet declaring them a couple - but that happens every time two mal...

So we open on Patrick and his co-worker attending the release party for the game they just finished designing. Patrick is presenting his issues with representation in the video game world, and as he is making his point – jackpot! First sighting of Russell Tovey! I’ll admit he was one of the reasons I’ve been excited to watch this show. He’s a pretty good example of a new millennial out actor and ...

I enjoyed this week’s episode. Yes, Ian hasn’t returned but the other characters are still holding my interest.
Frank and Samantha
It was fun to see how Frank decided to get the $150,000 needed for the liver transplant with the help of Carl, and how Samantha didn’t turn out to be a viable donor in the end. I wasn&...

The first gay love scene I recall viewing—as a very horny, very closeted sixteen-year-old—was between Michael Ontkean and Harry Hamlin in Making Love, when it was broadcast on late-night cable circa 1983-’84. Though comparatively chaste by today’s post-QAF standards—two kisses, mutual removal of shirts, and some silhouetted rolling around under the sheets—to my sex-starved li...

(Editor’s note: I’ve never seen Shameless since I don’t get Showtime, but I can now stream it via Netflix. I’ve always had a bit of a thing for Noel Fisher, who plays Mickey, and from what I’ve read the gay plotlines on the show are not the same old thing. Farid is a fan of the show, and will be contributing commentary whenever he feels inspired to do so.)
"Teen Wolf" - A Roundtable Discussion, Part 1

“Teen Wolf” is one of those shows – like “Glee” - that seems to generate a large amount of discussion in the gay community. It has lots of hot guys, an extraordinarily gay friendly (and quintessentially “new millennial” vibe, and multiple gay characters. Since most of our writers watch the show with keen interest it seemed natural to do a roundtable discussion. We have five writers participating, and so we’re planning to do one...

The episode opens with Agustin officially moving out. As he and Patrick are talking about Patrick’s semi-awkward obsession with Richie, who he met on the train in episode one, he says, “you should at least try to blow him this time.” As this discourse continues we get to Patrick saying that he’s just looking for a fuck buddy, and he clearly doesn’t believe it any more than Agustin or Dom d...

It’s a short, simple word, but one fraught with meaning. It hints of danger—of speeds raced too fast, cigarettes inhaled deeply, and cross-dressing in the “opposite” gender’s clothing. It implies pleasure, hedonism, and transgression. Hear it whispering in your ear, and experience a faint frisson: Drag!
My experiences with drag are, to und...

So this past Sunday HBO premiered its new series Looking, and I have to say I’m hopeful. Here are my first impressions: Looking tells the story of a particular set of friends who live in San Francisco, but it’s not attempting to tell the universal gay story or even pretending to, and I like that. I don’t think there really is a universal gay story anymore, and trying to show there is on...

A few weeks ago it seemed the internet had a minor rash of fluffy-but-fun articles listing various “Things Every Gay Man Should Do By Age 40” or “Things No Gay Man Should Do After 35,” etc. As the “New Millennial Gay” website tends to focus on a slightly younger demographic—and since I like the number 21 as it’s my birthday this month—...

Check out part one of the Glee Roundtable to see the identity of the five participants, and to get our insight into how Glee has evolved, whether the writing is as bad as everyone says, and what's up with the Lima/New York split. Part two looks at Kurt and Blaine and their relationship outlook, and then we end with our hopes for how the series will conclude next season....

When Glee premiered in 2009 it seemed like a breath of fresh air. It had a skewed sensibility, interesting characters, and a lot of good music. For gay people it had an outsider’s outlook, focusing on characters who were anything but the popular kids in school. Each slushy in the face, each toss into a dumpster, resonated with viewers who had often felt like outsiders themselves. For many people the icing on the cake was Kurt Hummel, closeted at first, but then increasing...

Just like there are different kinds of straight people out there, there are different kinds of gay people as well. Some gay men like to watch sports, while some like to cook. However, every society has an idea of what a “man” should be like. I never actually understood people who link “not watching sports” to being gay, but there are a lot of them out there. Do they really think there are no strai...

(Note: This review contains some spoilers.)
There is a crackling, go-for-the-throat thriller lurking inside of Richard Alther’s novel The Scar Letters. Alther, however, is interested in more than just tightening a reader’s thumbscrews; he has tried—admirably, if unsuccessfully—to turn a story of a man recovering from a brutal hate crime into a larger explor...

The sound was between a gentle croon, a moist sob, and the whine of a cordless drill, and it continued more or less unabated for a good fifteen minutes. Occasionally, the endless, hiccupy drone was punctuated with something akin to a sob: “I….want…can…dy.” The instigator of this discordance was a boy who looked to be about six or seven years old, and who was having no hesitation about expressin...
